Indian archers performed three gold, four silver and two bronze medals in their names, performing brilliantly in the Asian championship in Dhaka. During this, two children and girls qualified for the 2018 Youth Olympics. Haryana’s 15-year-old Himani Kumari won the Youth Olympics quota as well as winning the bronze medal by defeating Bayasgalan Badamjuani of Mongolia 7-1 in the recurve cadet competition.
Before that, the 14-year-old Akhara of Haryana defeated Dhiraj Bommadevara of Andhra Pradesh by 6-4 in the final of the cadet recurve final between the two Indians and finished the Youth Olympics. From this tournament, the quota for the 2018 Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina can be obtained.
Indian Team of Jayant Talukdar, Atanu Das and Yashdev lost to Korean team 1-5 in Senior Men’s Recurve Competition. He had to be satisfied with silver medal. India also got two gold medals in the non-Olympic compound event. Abhishek Verma also defeated Korea’s Kim Jongho, keeping gold as his name and preventing Korea from being clean sweep in the competition.
Verma could not give gold to men’s team though. Verma, Gurvinder Singh and Rajat Chauhan were left behind by two points from the Korean team in the final of the Compound team event. Korea won gold by defeating India 234-232.
The Indian women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Trisha Dev and Praveen, defeated Sochi, Choi Boman and Song Yun Soo 230-227 in a tough fight to beat their gold medal. India’s mixed team lost to Korea in the finals of the Compound team event and had to be satisfied with silver medal.
